Spring in the Cypresses, Cambria

I spent a few days last March in Cambria, CA, where sprawling old cypresses line the cliffs above the rocky sea. I took this reference photo one morning, under a dense canopy that cast dark shade over the sandy soil. Rather than face the water, I was caught by the infinite greens inland, sunlit beyond the purple-blues of the evergreen cypresses.

This painting was juried into the California Art Club's 2023 Excellence in Traditional Fine Art Competition, called "Spring Awakening." It was the only acrylic painting of the 45 works chosen from nearly 400 art pieces submitted.

The frame is a custom, modern, rough wood deep floater frame, to echo the tactile cypress trees. Framed dimensions are 27 x 21 x 2 inches.
